Who We Are
Persian Mehr Cultural Society is a non-profit, community-based organization in Edmonton, Alberta, dedicated to preserving and sharing Farsi language, culture, and heritage. Our Farsi school provides children with a warm and welcoming environment to learn the Farsi language, explore cultural traditions, and build confidence in their cultural identity and heritage.
Our classes introduce students to the Persian alphabet, beginner reading and writing, vocabulary, conversation, stories, poetry, and cultural activities. Children do not need to speak Farsi fluently before joining. Our approach is playful, supportive, and designed to help every child feel included and encouraged.
Through language lessons and cultural celebrations, we help children connect with Persian heritage in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. Persian Mehr Cultural Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and operates on a non-profit basis, with funds used to support the Society’s educational and cultural purposes.
We are an inclusive, non-religious, and non-political community organization. We welcome families, volunteers, and community members who share our commitment to keeping Persian language and culture alive for future generations.

The Persian Language Academy for Children is an educational and cultural initiative of the Persian Mehr Cultural Society, dedicated to helping children learn Persian while strengthening their connection to their cultural identity.
We believe Persian is more than a language—it is a home for memories, poetry, stories, traditions, and shared experiences that connect generations. Through language learning, we hope to foster confidence, belonging, friendship, and cultural pride in every child.

Questions
Children are not expected to read or write Persian, nor do they need to speak Farsi fluently. The classes are designed to encourage children to interact with their classmates and teachers using the words they already know in a playful and fun environment.
Classes are currently offered for children ages 5 to 10.
The classes are held in person.
The first semester focuses on foundational Farsi language skills, including the alphabet, beginner reading and writing, basic vocabulary, simple conversations, stories, poetry, and cultural activities.
No. This is a community-based educational and cultural program operated by the Persian Mehr Cultural Society.
The school is run by the Persian Mehr Cultural Society Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for setting general policies and planning. Board members do not receive salaries for their service. The program supports multicultural education, attracts new families, and preserves heritage language.
Yes. Appropriate learning materials and classroom resources will be provided.
Please notify the school at least 24 hours in advance if your child will be absent. The teacher will provide parents with the material to study at home.
Absolutely. Parents are highly encouraged to volunteer with and support the school board at Persian Mehr Cultural Society. We welcome parent engagement and family participation in educational, cultural, and community events.
Two academic semesters are included in one school year:
First semester: Begins on September 6
Second semester: Begins February 7

As stated in the Bylaws, the Society is not affiliated with any religious or political organization and does not receive funds from such organizations.
Yes. Children will learn about and, when possible, celebrate cultural occasions such as Nowruz, Yalda, and Mehregan.
The school is funded through tuition, fundraising events, and grants from non-religious, non-political organizations.
Payment information will be sent to each applicant after the registration form is completed. Payments must be made at least one to two weeks before the beginning of each semester.
Persian Mehr Cultural Society works closely with other Farsi schools and teachers across North America to design and select engaging, approved content for our applicants. We currently collaborate with successful schools in Canada and the United States, such as Dehkhoda School in Montreal and Chicago Farsi School, to use their books, posters, and educational games and to consult on teaching methods.
